In Computer science We know ROM Means "Read Only Memory",Thats Not Always means Its Always A hardware Thing.In Android Community Or in Android We Known ROM Means AN OS(Operating System).A complete Packages of kernel,Drivers & Default Apps.Where Computers are not Comes with Any Pre installed UI Phones Are Comes With UI(User interface).Thats Why We Use A Phone The moment Of Out of the box,In Android Phones Pre-install ROM or OS are Called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or Stock Rom.
What Is Custom Rom Or Forked Rom? Android Rom are Linux Based Rom,At first Android inc. Developed this But We all known Google Take Over This Now.Android Is not Properly a Open Source Project,There are two types of Android Os 1.closed source:In Here google give permission for Android Phones & Android One Phones,In here we get all google Pre installed Services.And Second one is Open Source Known As AOSP(Android open source project).And this is This is original or pure android OS.This is Also Called as Vanilla Android,Here Android Developer Develop And Customize And Make New Flavored For Android Phones This is Called Custom OS,And the Whole Packaged Called Custom Rom.
